IDEO.org is currently looking for a Design Strategy Lead with experience in narrative change, movement building, brand, and/or strategy to join our San Francisco studio. A core part of IDEO.org’s design work is focussed on crafting narratives, brands, and strategies that drive positive shifts in policy, culture, and public perception. Tangibly, this might look like building an awareness campaign to support an advocacy partner in their efforts; or, co-creating a digital storytelling experience that communicates a new future vision; or, it could be developing a brand strategy that enables an organization to more effectively catalyze internal and external momentum for a movement. Core Responsibilities: Set the creative and strategic direction across a variety of design challenges with a particular focus on narrative, brand, communications, and strategies Ability to develop content, ultimately produce working materials and deliverables such as compelling stories, visualizations, written narratives, or strategic positioning documents. Draw from a toolbox of methods and techniques to inform and evolve our narrative work. Comfort with community engagement and co-creation methodologies in service of centering the voices, insights and ideas of end-users and project partners throughout. Work in a highly collaborative setting to develop and bring to life compelling solutions Bring values of equity and justice to the work you do. Instill project teams with the confidence and discipline to explore innovative design solutions. Support designers to infuse their passions into projects and learn new skills. You Have: 5+ years of professional experience Your background in craft or discipline may include: brand, writing, communications, advocacy, advertising, movement design, collective impact work Adept at weaving strategies into stories that shift our mental models of what the world, and the social systems within it, can be like. A creative leader with experience guiding multidisciplinary teams through the design process and communicating systems & strategy concepts to a wide diversity of audiences, including partners and designers from other disciplines. A strategic thinker who leads by example, treats peers and partners with respect, and seeks and gives constructive feedback. Human-centered or people-focused, ideally with a desire to collaborate broadly with folks across all parts of the system. Solution-focused and medium-agnostic, willing to step out of your core skill set or discipline to find the correct solution to a challenge. Willing and able to travel within the U.S. (and potentially outside of the U.S.) ~25% of the time.
