Job Description
As an Industrial Designer, you will: Establish conceptual direction of and develop solutions for new product having high level of complexity, difficulty, breadth of scope, or for which few precedents exist, ensuring corporate objectives are met in areas of aesthetics, functions, performance, application, sustainability, and profitability. Job Responsibilities Conceptualizes, develops, and recommends product solutions for assigned projects to meet corporate objectives for profitability, cost, and brand. Communicates product solutions through sketching, 3D development, rendering, and/or model making to project teams and Executive Management to gain consensus/approval of solutions. Monitors and participates in construction of visual and functional prototypes to ensure effective evaluation and presentation of same. Recommends surface finishes, materials, and colors for new product offerings to ensure aesthetically pleasing product. Participates in design revisions and/or value analysis activities to develop creative cost improvements without loss of product integrity. Collaborates with Product Marketing to organize and conduct internal and field research and focus groups. Establishes initial visual and performance standards for new introductions and reviews existing standards as required to assure visual and functional quality. Collaborates with staff/external Ergonomist and/or personally conducts human factors analysis to verify proper comfort/performance measures are maintained. Designs and produces prototypes, utilizing three-dimensional design/rendering skills, for internal evaluations to create potential new product. Performs client presentations to describe design elements of products and Haworth’s design philosophy. Monitors and evaluates competitive products through product procurement, literature, showroom visits, and other available methods to maintain high level design-related knowledge base. Consults with Member Performance and Development personnel to assist with development and presentations of training programs for new product introductions. Do you have these required qualifications? Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or similar. 2 years product design experience, including experience with human factor analysis. Based on level of experience this role would be either a Staff or Senior Industrial Designer Ability to travel overnight away from corporate offices, up to 15%. Current and continuing right to work in the United States without sponsorship. Ability to work and commute onsite daily to our headquarters in Holland, MI without relocation assistance. Do you have these preferred qualifications? 5 or more years of product design experience Rhino or SolidWorks experience with focus on Surface Development, rendering packages Keyshot or V-Ray, Adobe Creative Suite Excellent presentation skills
