Location: Remote in the U.S. Travel: 10%, dependent on need and public health considerations Type: Full time Salary: $56,977 per year Description When you think about elections, you might think about popular candidates, “I voted” stickers, and all sorts of paperwork and deadlines. But behind the scenes are thousands of election officials in state and local governments who are working hard to make sure ballots are counted and voices are heard. As a Digital Content Associate at CTCL, you will create dynamic, engaging content that advances CTCL’s mission to support those election officials, and make our elections more professional, inclusive, and secure. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute toward all of CTCL’s programs, including: Our monthly newsletter, where we spotlight local election officials and share best practices in election administration. The U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence, where we’re working with election officials and experts to set national values and standards of election excellence. The Election Infrastructure Initiative, where we advocate for federal funding of elections. Our Civic Information program, where we connect voters to the information they need to make informed decisions at the ballot box. As part of your work, you’ll collaborate closely with members of the Communications department, as well as with CTCL staff members across all departments, and partner organizations. You’ll report to a Communications Manager in the Communications department. Responsibilities Design digital content - Produce and edit digital content including but not limited to social media graphics; email newsletters; presentation and report templates; infographics; event materials; etc. Create and maintain systems for storing and organizing digital content. Collaborate, ideate, and iterate - Participate in regular meetings with CTCL staff members across departments. Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate new digital content ideas and creative marketing solutions, and refine designs based on input from other departments. Support the communications department in documenting and enforcing brand guidelines across the organization. Schedule and coordinate - Support the Communications department to develop our social media strategy. Help build out a proactive content calendar and draft, schedule, and publish social media posts, emails, and other digital content. Show commitment to priority audiences - Help ensure the Communications department’s digital content prioritizes the needs of voters who are newly eligible, have limited English proficiency, live with disabilities, or are from communities that are impacted by the digital divide or historical disenfranchisement due to race. Desired Qualifications If you’re not familiar with elections or election administration, that’s okay — what’s most important are your skills as a creator, coordinator, and collaborator. Even if you aren’t sure if you’re qualified but are excited about the position, we encourage you to apply! A successful candidate for the Digital Content Associate position will have an understanding of CTCL’s mission and a proven track record of success. While no candidate will possess every quality, the successful candidate will possess many of the following qualifications and personal attributes: You are skilled in using design software to create graphics, design reports, and complete other projects. You have working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, basic HTML, and CSS, and you are comfortable with learning new software programs as needed. You can adapt content to meet the needs of different audiences. You have strong verbal and written communication skills. You can clearly communicate the reasoning behind design choices. You are skilled at adapting conceptual written content into digestible and easy-to-understand visual materials. You are a strong collaborator who loves a good brainstorming session. You can generate new ideas, ask thoughtful questions, and draft plans for how to explore a new idea or different approach. You communicate with others in a way that shows you care about their perspective. You are flexible. You can solicit and synthesize feedback from a variety of stakeholders. You have experience using content management and project management systems. You are organized and detail oriented. You can manage your own time and workload and make sure things don’t fall through the cracks. You are comfortable in a virtual professional setting. You are accountable and self-motivated without an office environment. You are data-driven, or at least data-curious. You can evaluate the performance of digital content, and use learnings to inform future strategies. You are curious. You are committed to learning new things and developing new skills. You have skills and experiences that help you understand people who face barriers accessing public services. For instance, you may be multilingual or have experience making content accessible to people with disabilities. You are enthusiastic about making elections more secure and inclusive. You believe in democracy and care about voting. About the Center for Tech and Civic Life The Center for Tech and Civic Life is a nonpartisan nonprofit that connects Americans with the information they need to become and remain civically engaged, and ensures that our elections are more professional, inclusive, and secure. We do this by providing information the public needs to develop lifelong civic habits and by connecting election officials with tools and training so that they can best serve their communities. To date, we’ve published civic datasets that answer the questions “What’s on my ballot?” and “Who represents me?” which have been accessed over 200 million times. And we’ve trained thousands of election officials, serving over 80 million voters, on topics like election website design and cybersecurity best practices. If you are selected to move forward in our process, we will invite you to complete a job simulation exercise to demonstrate your qualifications and also get a better idea of what the job will be like. The simulation will take about 2 hours to complete. Based on your application and simulation, a video interview and reference check will be conducted to determine if you are the best fit for the position. The interview will take approximately 1 hour.
