This role is open to New York City, U.S.A. and London, U.K.
As the Senior Designer you will work as part of the New York team within a global division across countries and time zones, helping to build the future of the BBC product suite outside the UK. Your work will be a combination of both short-term and long-term design thinking, hands-on design execution, design communication, and constantly improving the experience and design of our products.
Responsible for the overall design and end-to-end product experience for a global audience consuming our world class content across both existing and future products.
Provide UX and UI design expertise across responsive websites, mobile apps, and digital products for a global product suite.
Triangulate and balance user needs, business needs and commercial revenue opportunities that extend the brand, answer our commercial ambition, and provide users with the best experiences to tell our stories.
Work with stakeholders, business analysts, and product team to understand design requirements and expectations.
Collaborate with research & insights to conduct relevant analysis and testing to investigate and validate design decisions.
Contribute to cross function concept sessions on product solutions.
Create early design collateral for communication, scoping, and stakeholder approval.
Empathize with user needs and provide solutions through wireframes, user flows, and functioning prototypes.
Working in agile design sprints to constantly improve and iterate upon our product suite.
Communicate design work to development teams through clear documentation, prototypes, design system contributions, and other handoff materials.
Help maintain and evolve the product design system and component library.
Work closely with the brand team to ensure our products effectively represent the BBC brand.
Collaborate with marketing teams to enable understanding and promotion of our products.
Give UX/UI feedback to more junior members of the team.
Feed in to fostering a collaborative work environment, communicating your ideas and intentions across departments and creatively guiding other designers.
Scope & Impact
Reports to the Global Digital News and streaming Creative Director.
Contribute to the creative vision for the current and future states of the product, and ensure this vision is documented, communicated, and followed.
Able to take charge of individual projects or task delivery.
Mentors or guides junior creatives in the team.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
Expert in industry tooling such as: Figma, prototyping, design systems.
Comfortable with digital remote communication and collaboration tooling such as: Slack, Miro, Dropbox, Zoom, Teams.
Comfortable presenting work to groups and stakeholders.
Keep pace with the latest design trends and technological developments.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
5+ years’ experience in digital product design/UX team environment.
News media experience a plus.
Relevant portfolio of recent work highlighting multiple projects demonstrating your contributions.
