Job Description

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS, Music and Theater Arts (MTA) Section, to act as the chief communications strategist for the section and its programs. Will develop and lead a strategic communications plan and branding in support of MTA’s goals and achievements; produce digital and print content about faculty and student artistic research and performances; oversee strategy for social media, newsletters, and websites; prepare reports and official correspondence to key internal/external stakeholders; serve as intermediary between press and MTA programs and faculty to develop media presence for MTA academic activities, research, and high-profile events; represent MTA across MIT; and collaborate with other units to achieve overarching communications goals. A full description is available here: https://bit.ly/MTA-Comms-Director Job Requirements: REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field; seven years’ relevant professional experience, including designing and implementing communications strategies, brand identity design and development, brand management, planning, public relations, and strategic marketing; ability to develop and implement communications strategies across outreach platforms (email marketing, print materials, social media, video, web); advanced-level written and verbal communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; demonstrated success in writing, copy editing, and publishing; ability to assess project/program outcomes and implement changes/improvements; excellent time-management skills and proven ability to meet deadlines; ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, visiting artists/scholars, and other internal stakeholders; ability to work independently and as a team member; discretion with sensitive/confidential information; and technical proficiency with standard Microsoft Office software, design platforms (i.e., Adobe Design Suite), and content management systems (e.g., Drupal, WordPress). PREFERRED: master’s degree in a related field, demonstrated interest in music and/or theater arts, and experience in a post-secondary or educational institution.
