Job Description
Data for Black Lives is a network of scientists and activists working to make data a tool for social change instead of a weapon of political oppression. We are hosting our third conference this fall in New York City and are in search of a designer to lead art direction for the event. This conference is an inflection point for our movement. It is our first event in New York (the past two were held at the MIT Media Lab), at the five-year anniversary of our organization, and it is the beginning of a new era as our work and reach expands in breadth and scope. Our visual identity as a movement has always been bold but understated. The Art Director would work with our team to cast a new vision in the form of consistent, clear, powerful language that evokes the spirit of our organization, and creates a portal by which others are able to enter, and only through such portal are they able to enter, a movement that is open and welcoming, but also hidden in plain sight and underground. The Art Director would design and produce the following: a new visual language that communicates the vision of our conference and organization, subway screen ads, to share across social media platforms, signage for the conference, the conference program booklet and other print & digital collateral.
