Job Description

This is a contract-to-hire position, starting part-time (~20h/week) and expanding to full time within 2-3 months. You’ll be an individual contributor on 1-3 longer-term projects, working closely with our Lead Product Designer. Applicants should have at least 4 years of UX experience. Candidates who have less than that must unequivocally demonstrate their real-world experience supporting the UX skills outlined below (to include in cover letter). Candidates must share portfolio when submitting application. REQUIRED The following real-world experience are absolutely necessary in order to be considered for this role. Applicants must share portfolio (website or deck/PDF) when submitting application. **Student projects are not accepted as real-world experience. - Plan and execute on discovery / foundational research, and synthesize that data into actionable insights - Design cleanly at all levels, from low-fidelity wireframes to high-fidelity mockups - Demonstrate thorough knowledge of UX heuristics and principles, and apply them to designs - Perform usability testing following best practices, iterate on designs - Embody a self-starting attitude: entrepreneurial background or other demonstrated capability and willingness to take initiative in order to execute as needed - Perform concept testing at early stages of brainstorming and solutionizing - Consistently focus on problems and outcomes, not features and deliverables DESIRED These experiences will put you at the top of the list. - Frequent close collaboration with development teams (working in tandem with dev, not just handing off) - Inform design decisions through knowledge of psychological principles and HCI - Ability to create polished UI designs, or graphic design background BONUS These are the qualities we seek in the teammates we work with long term. - Big-picture thinker - you have experience thinking about the outcome the design should create, the unintended consequences, the repercussions for the larger system, and the ethics of the product. - You have the habit of asking why and pushing back on requirements. - You communicate (written, verbal) concisely, clearly, and intentionally. - You know how to hit deadlines, or work with your team to adjust when things come up. - You’re used to giving and receiving candid feedback/critique without being aggressive or taking things personally. - You’re driven, taking time and initiative to learn new things. - You’ve worked on successful, highly adopted apps in the food, health, or environmental industry. - You have an interest in creating health, equity, or sustainability in the world. - You have experience creating something truly innovative - a solution that didn’t exist before.
